Your Responsibilities
- Coordinating with our on premise Program Manager to plan projects, set priorities for the team, and identify areas of improvement for process and systems improvement
- Performing Linux system administration tasks to maintain and improve the big data environment, ranging from tactical server and operating system administration to planning and executing projects that upgrade or reconfigure online systems.
- Developing software that combines open-source and custom components to simplify and automate routine big data management tasks, for example, writing command-line or updating web-based interfaces that automate common procedures in a user-friendly manner.
- Providing technical assistance to a broad community of big data infrastructure users, such as software application engineers and data scientists.
- Participating in a periodic on-call pager rotation of systems operations engineers responsible for the continuous availability of Walmarts big data infrastructure.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree with 5+ years of experience in Computer Science or related field.
- Should have a strong problem solving, logical and analytical thinking, decision-making and excellent communication with interpersonal skills.
- Hadoop command line administration, including use of logs to debug job and systems issues related to Spark, MapReduce, Tez, Hive, Pig, and Apache Ranger
- Linux system administration, including software installation and networking and storage system configuration
- Experience with configuring and using authentication and authorization technologies, specifically Kerberos and Centrify
- 2+ years in a leadership role, either direct management or a senior IC position, responsible for setting goals and direction for other team members
- Experience with SQL database systems and database technologies (e.g., MySQL, Oracle, Cassandra)
- Experience with multiple scripting languages such as bash, Python, Perl, or Ruby
- Experience in installing Hadoop clusters, including configuration of Hadoop services (HBase, Impala, Hive, Hue, HDFS)
- Experience with production Hadoop platform administration (any of Cloudera, Hortonworks, MapR, Apache Foundation Hadoop) including monitoring tools such as Nagios, Ganglia, Cloudera Manager and Ambari.
- Experience with at least one scripting language, such as bash, Python, Perl, or Ruby
- Experience with configuration management- preferably Puppet or Ansible.
Additional Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with Hadoop deployments in cloud environments (AWS, GCP, Azure etc.)
- Experience building web-based user services using common web frameworks, such as Python/Django, PHP/Fuel, or Ruby on Rails
